Abstract

Cabletron Systems, Inc. commissioned The Tolly Group to measure the performance of its SmartSwitch 9500 modular switching chassis with 224 ATM OC-3 (155Mbps) ports installed. The Tolly Group tested the aggregate cell-switching throughput as well as the peak SVC call setup rate and its simultaneous call capacity.

The Cabletron SmartSwitch 9500 delivered sustained aggregate throughput of 30.19 Gbps in a full-mesh test of 224 OC-3 ports; delivered wire-speed throughput of multicast traffic in a PVC point-to-multipoint configuration; created and sustained an average of 659,505 simultaneous SVCs; and handled a peack call rate of 2,451 calls per second from an offered load of 2,400 calls.
