Abstract
Foundry Networks, Inc. commissioned The Tolly Group to evaluate the large-scale TCP session-processing rate of its ServerIronXL Version 5.1.02T12 switch versus Alteon 180e Web Switch Version 5.2.13. Unlike tests of the same competitive products conducted last August, The Tolly Group tested updated versions of both products with new network test parameters. Test results show that Foundry’s ServerIronXL supports a greater number of sessions and faster session set-up and tear-down rates than the Alteon 180e Web Switch. In a single port-pair environment, the ServerIronXL performed session set up and tear down at a rate of 24,093 sessions per second with no session loss. The ServerIronXL also demonstrated its ability to control high session-management performance while maintaining 128,000 to 384,000 open sessions as the network test scales from a single port-pair to a three port-pair environment.
