Abstract
Hewlett-Packard Co. commissioned The Tolly Group to evaluate its HP ProCurve switching line and its capability to provide a suitable infrastructure for transporting VoIP at high call quality levels. Tolly Group engineers compared the toll quality of Cisco AVVID traffic running over an HP ProCurve switching infrastructure to the toll quality delivered across a pure Cisco Catalyst network. Tolly Group engineers also examined the robustness of the HP ProCurve switching infrastructure to support high levels of VoIP call quality as the switching fabric supports VoIP traffic generated by Mitel Corp. and 3Com Corp. IP PBXs.
Engineers measured call quality across a representative switching infrastructure that included access, aggregation and core network switches; in fact, HP asked The Tolly Group to test with three different access switches to demonstrate that HP can meet a diverse set of user needs at the access level. Testing was performed in October 2003.
