Hewlett-Packard Co. commissioned The Tolly Group to evaluate its ProCurve Switch 5308xl-48G, the company’s scalable Layer 3 modular eight-slot Gigabit Ethernet managed switch with 48 10/100/1000 Mbps ports and five open module slots for future expansion, and its ProCurve Switch 2848, a 48-port Gigabit Ethernet switch designed for small to large enterprise networks.

Tolly Group engineers subjected the ProCurve switches to nine interoperability tests with eight other switches from five vendors – 3Com Corp., Cisco Systems, Dell, Extreme Networks and Foundry Networks. The ProCurve Switch 5308xl-48G and ProCurve Switch 2848 were subjected to a variety of advanced LAN service tests, including support for auto-negotiation, 802.1 p/Q VLAN tag propagation, RIP v1/v2, OSPF, Accelerated Convergence Spanning Tree 802.1w, and Jumbo Frames. In every instance, the ProCurve switches demonstrated their interoperability with other switches tested.
