Abstract

Intel Corporation commissioned The Tolly Group to benchmark the RAID 5 “write” performance of its Intel IOP333 I/O (input/output) processor embedded on an LSI Logic MegaRAID SAS 8408E controller against two SAS RAID controllers from Hewlett-Packard Co. — the Smart Array P400 and Smart Array E200, equipped with the LSI Logic 1078 and Broadcom® 8603 RAID-on-Chip processors, respectively.

The Tolly Group subjected all three Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) RAID controllers to a set of tests benchmarking the throughput of each solution. Engineers used Iometer, a well-known I/O performance measurement tool. Tests were run during October 2006.
