Nominum, Inc. Dynamic Configuration Server 2.2

Abstract

Nominum, Inc. commissioned The Tolly Group to compare the performance and reliability between the use of Nominum’s Dynamic Configuration Server and Internet Systems Consortium’s (ISC) DHCP server application.

Tolly Group engineers determined the maximum number of IP address assignments and IP address lease renewals per second. Tolly Group engineers then measured the amount of time it took for a server to restart and rebuild its lease database following a simulated server failure. Tests of Nominum DCS versus the ISC DHCP server prove that the DCS can process 4,677 IP address requests per second, nearly 20 times more than the ISC server. During a failover test, when one of the DCS servers suffered a failure and needed to rebuild its lease database, the time to recover its lease database took three seconds. This is 105 seconds faster than the ISC DHCP server.

Tests were conducted in July 2008.
