ONPATH UCS 3900 Packet Blade Scalability, Feature, and Centralized Management Platform Evaluation

Abstract

Today’s enterprises, service providers, and government agencies are being tasked to effectively monitor the performance and security of their networks. Fortunately, sophisticated tools are available for this purpose; however these tools are expensive and often in short supply in large organizations where assets are shared.

To meet this need, ONPATH’s Universal Connectivity System (UCS) Packet Blade (P-Blade), also referred to as a “Network Packet Broker” (NPB), offers up to 48 ports of packet flow switching in a single blade system, 144 ports in a 3- blade system, and 576 ports in a 12-blade system.

ONPATH commissioned Tolly to evaluate the scalability, functionality, and ease of management of ONPATH’s UCS P-Blade and HorizON management and monitoring software. The P-Blade provides ultra-low latency in a highly flexible, scalable Layer 1-4 platform, designed to improve network and application performance monitoring, network security, and forensic recording. The P-Blade delivers consistently low latency across the range of topologies and scenarios tested.
