Qwilt QB-100 Transparent Caching and Video Delivery PlatformPerformance and Features Evaluation

Abstract

As the sheer volume of video applications over the internet has increased, so too has the need for video traffic handling solutions. Traditionally, video traffic is delivered to the consumer through use of content delivery networks (CDNs), which deliver content to the consumer on top of operator networks, thus leading to the term“over-the-top (or OTT)”video traffic.

The Qwilt QB-100 is designed to assist carriers reduce the impact of OTT video traffic on their networks, improve quality of service for their end users, and prepare their networks for the future of online video.

Qwilt commissioned Tolly to evaluate the performance and functionality of their QB-100 in real-world environments. Tolly tests found that the QB-100 transparent caching and video delivery platform successfully classified over 20 Gbps of network traffic consisting of a mix of video, HTTP, UDP, and other types of traffic, and delivered 10 Gbps of sustained OTT video traffic to simulated clients.
