Abstract

Telcos and cloud environments are ranked highest in terms of networking demands. At scale, even minor differences in networking performance and resource utilization can have a significant impact on the application delivery.

NVIDIA® commissioned Tolly to benchmark the performance of its Mellanox® ConnectX®-5 25GbE network adapter against the performance of Intel’s XXV710 25GbE network adapter in scenarios focused on Telco and cloud providers. The test setup included two parts. The first, a bare-metal setup to validate throughput and packet’s processing efficiency. The second, an Open vSwitch (OVS) setup to evaluate the performance of VXLAN and connection tracking with low latency.

The ConnectX-5 25GbE adapter demonstrated higher throughput, better scale and lower resource utilization across the set of test scenarios.
