cPacket cStor® 200S Packet Capture & Analytics Observability

Abstract

Tolly evaluated cPacket’s 4-RU, 220 TB cStor 200S Packet Capture & Analytics Node in January 2025, driving single- and dual-100 GbE links with mixed-size traffic while toggling its on-box analytics and encryption. Throughout the trials the device wrote captured packets directly to disk and, in selected runs, simultaneously executed real-time searches and PCAP downloads—all within a controlled lab environment.

Results showed unwavering line-rate capture-to-disk at 94.6 Gbps on one port and 189 Gbps on two, translating to 33.4 Mpps and 66.9 Mpps respectively, with zero packet loss whether analytics and self-encrypting drives were enabled or not. Even under maximum load the system could locate and retrieve 1,000 specific packets out of 40 billion in flight without disturbing capture performance.

Taken together, the figures demonstrate linear scalability and true “no-compromise” observability: IT teams in latency-sensitive, compliance-driven, or forensics-heavy environments can rely on the cStor 200S to ingest, index, and mine high-speed traffic around the clock without sacrificing packet fidelity or security at rest.
