Ruijie Wi-Fi 7 AP Performance Evaluation and Feature Validation

Abstract

Ruijie Networks commissioned Tolly to evaluate the performance and feature set of Ruijie Wi-Fi 7 access points. The main focus of the project was to validate single-user throughput, multi-user capacity, full-device aggregate performance, and Multi-Link Operation (MLO) capability across a range of Ruijie in-wall, indoor, high-density, and outdoor Wi-Fi 7 AP models.

The report covers multiple product classes, including the RG-AP1920 in-wall AP, RG-MAP920-SF-M optical micro AP, RG-AP9220 dual-radio indoor AP, RG-AP9751-R enhanced indoor AP, RG-AP9850-R and RG-AP9861-R flagship high-density indoor APs, RG-AP9520-RDX tri-radio indoor AP, and the RG-AP6920-D, RG-AP690-A, and RG-AP690D-A outdoor APs. Tolly notes that Wi-Fi 7 introduces wider channel bandwidths, higher-order modulation, stronger multi-user capabilities, lower latency, and MLO, and used Wi-Fi 7 phones plus selected PCs with Intel BE200 or MediaTek MT7927 adapters as clients, with throughput measured by Keysight IxChariot.

In single-user testing, all tested Ruijie Wi-Fi 7 APs operating in 5GHz or 6GHz with 160MHz channels exceeded 2.2Gbps, with several reaching or surpassing 2.3Gbps. Results included 2.31Gbps TCP downstream for the RG-AP1920, 2.315Gbps for the RG-AP690D-A, and 2.256Gbps for the RG-AP690-A. The highest reported single-user result came from the RG-AP9861-R, which achieved 4.354Gbps TCP downstream and 4.225Gbps TCP upstream on the 6GHz band with a 320MHz channel.

Tolly also examined multi-user and full-device performance under heavier load. Dual-radio APs were tested with 50 connected clients, while larger multi-radio models supported 75 to 80 clients in the test setup. Multi-user TCP downstream throughput reached 2,636Mbps on the RG-AP9850-R, 2,417Mbps on the RG-AP9751-R, and 2,341Mbps on the RG-AP9861-R. In full-device testing, where each active radio served one client, dual-radio models delivered more than 2.2Gbps, three-radio models delivered up to about 3.6Gbps, and the RG-AP9861-R reached 4.57Gbps downstream and 4.40Gbps upstream when 2.4GHz, 5.2GHz, 5.8GHz, and 6GHz radios were used simultaneously.

A major emphasis in the report is Wi-Fi 7 MLO. Using simultaneous links across two radios, Ruijie APs delivered substantially higher performance than single-link operation. With 2.4GHz at 40MHz plus 5GHz at 80MHz, tested APs such as the RG-AP9220, RG-AP690-A, and RG-AP690D-A delivered about 1.32Gbps to 1.38Gbps. With 2.4GHz at 40MHz plus 5GHz at 160MHz, the RG-AP9520-RDX achieved 2.69Gbps downstream and the RG-AP9861-R achieved 2.53Gbps downstream and 2.70Gbps upstream. Overall, the report presents Ruijie’s Wi-Fi 7 AP portfolio as a high-performance WLAN family with strong throughput scaling across client density, radio count, and MLO-enabled use cases.
