Abstract

The Tolly Group, under its former name InterLAB, ran a multi-vendor performance test of local Token Ring bridges. 

The Olicom boards are based on the Texas Instruments (TI) TMS380 s token ring chip set. It achieved source-route bridging throughput of 11.9Mbps. 

What is interesting is that this solution runs a any IBM-compatible PC. It is not a dedicated hardware appliance. This makes it very cost effective. This test was run on an IBM Model 76 25Mhz micro-channel architecture PC. (The solution is also available in a version for older, ISA channel architecture PCs.)

The Olicom bridge supports a maximum frame size of 4,096 bytes.
