Motorola Codex 3261 Fast-SDC Modem Synchronous Data Compression over Switched Analog Lines

Abstract

Motorola Codex commissioned Tolly to evaluate its 3261 Fast-SDC analog (switched)modem. The modem can be used to connected remote LANs.

The test benchmarked effective bridge/router throughput using data compression in conjunction with 24,000 bit/s switched analog connections.

Using data compression, the link was able to transport over 85,000 bit/s across the connection. The solution also features an anti-expansion algorithm that prevents attempts to compress data that has previously been compress.
