Abstract

Attachmate commissioned Tolly to evaluate the features/function of its EXTRA! 3270 terminal emulator designed for the OS/2 operating system environment. OS/2 versions 2.0 and 2.1 were tested.

3270 emulation was software that emulated the mainframe terminal access features of IBM's 3270 hardware terminal line. Implementation consisted of software and a hardware interface in the PC to provide the connection to the coaxial port on an IBM 3274 (or similar) controller. 

EXTRA! for OS/2 was compared to the features offered in IBM's Communication Manager (CM). CM was the optional version of OS/2 that provided connectivity.

Features included: Support for 26 separate sessions, menu-driven file transfer (mainframe file transfer), macros, and more.
