netXpand SoHo - WAN Routing Performance (TCP/IP & Novell IPX)

Abstract

SBE, Inc. commissioned The Tolly Group to evaluate the routing performance of the netXpand SoHo remote LAN access router/ server in a typical branch office environment. The Tolly Group executed a series of tests designed to stress the netXpand SoHo while it performed routing of TCP/IP or NetWare IPX as both a remote LAN access server and branch office router. A major factor in evaluating router performance is the router’s ability to use efficiently the entire bandwidth of a WAN link. Testing was performed to measure how efficiently the netXpand SoHo could use the full bandwidth of both dedicated and dial-up links.

The testing demonstrated that the SBE netXpand SoHo could deliver maximum performance, using 100% of the available bandwidth, while simultaneously supporting both high speed modem and dedicated circuits across four ports. Results prove aggregate throughput remained at wire speed with a variety of packet sizes even when the router was fully loaded.

RESULTS
The Tolly Group conducted a series of TCP/IP and Novell IPX routing benchmark tests in which the netXpand SoHo router was tested for its performance while simultaneously performing the functions of a remote access server and branch office router. Results of testing confirmed that the netXpand SoHo router is capable of delivering maximum throughput concurrently for two dedicated links, connected at 128 Kbit/s, and two dial-in clients, connected with high speed V.34 modems (28.8 Kbit/s) over analog phone lines.
