Abstract
Scorpio Communications commissioned The Tolly Group to perform a battery of rigorous performance tests on its Stinger-1 ATM Switch designed to measure throughput and functionality in several areas critical to ATM networking. The tests measured latency and jitter with and without switch congestion, prioritization by quality of service and by cell loss priority, resistance to head-of-line blocking, and multi-stream throughput.
The Stinger-1 ATM Switch performed well in every test: The test results demonstrate that the Stinger-1 ATM Switch delivers line-speed throughput with low latency and jitter, even during extremely heavy network loads. The switch effectively prioritizes traffic, and exhibits no problems associated with head-of-line blocking. (Scorpio Communications was acquired by US Robotics in 1996 which, shortly thereafter, merged with 3Com.)
