Abstract

Madge Networks Ltd. commissioned The Tolly Group to evaluate the performance of its LANswitch 3LS and to demonstrate the device’s routing and switching capabilities. The Tolly Group gauged the throughput of the device when simultaneously performing routing and switching of both IP and IPX traffic between pairs of Fast Ethernet and pairs of Ethernet segments. Routing throughput between VLANs was measured and the effect of filtering on throughput was examined. The Tolly Group also verified the operational compatibility of the LANswitch 3LS serving as a full function IP and IPX router in an actual network built with Cisco routers transporting both IP and IPX application traffic.
