Abstract
Foundry Networks commissioned The Tolly Group to test the Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet routing performance of its NetIron Gigabit Switching Router. The Tolly Group also tested the throughput of the Net- Iron’s 16 Fast Ethernet ports and measured the throughput of both Gigabit Ethernet uplinks. In order to verify that the NetIron could effectively route both IP and IPX, The Tolly Group used two sets of streams running simultaneously, one for each protocol. Testing was performed in October 1997.
Test results show that the NetIron achieves wire-speed routing throughput across 16 Fast Ethernet ports with eight ports routing IP and eight ports routing IPX. Across its pair of full duplex Gigabit Ethernet uplinks, the Net- Iron delivers wire-speed routing (IP in one direction and IPX in the other direction.)
