Abstract

3Com commissioned The Tolly Group to perform a competitive evaluation between two of its SuperStack II switches and compare those switches to pairs of switches from Cisco Systems and Bay Networks.

The switches tested from 3Com were the SuperStack II Switch 3300 and 1100. The switches tested from Cisco Systems were the Catalyst 2916M XL and the 1900. The switches tested from Bay Networks were the BayStack 350T-HD and 303.

Test showed "Fan Out" performance of FE to Ethernet traffic was superior on the 3Com devices. Testing also demonstrated 3Com switch stacking interconnect matrix. This allows switches to be stacked and used as a single logical switch without consuming switch ports.
