Abstract

Cabletron Systems commissioned The Tolly Group to verify the Gigabit Ethernet switching and IP routing performance of the SmartSwitch Router 8600, a 16-slot backbone-class switch/router equipped with 30 Gigabit Ethernet ports. Testing was performed in May 1998. 

Test results show that the Smart- Switch Router 8600 can deliver an aggregate throughput in excess of 30 million packets per second (pps) in separate tests of layer 2 and layer 3 IP traffic. The SmartSwitch Router 8600 maintained the same zero loss throughput rates in all configurations tested.
