Abstract
Attachmate Corp. commissioned The Tolly Group to evaluate the 3270 component of EXTRA! Personal Client 6.0. This product also provides comparable 5250, DEC host and UNIX host connectivity. The study was designed to identify important aspects of host connectivity and quantify ease-of-use characteristics under Windows 95. This comparative study also evaluated 3270 terminal emulation solutions from DCA, IBM, NetSoft, and Wall Data. The Tolly Group evaluated dozens of granular criteria related to ease-of-use.
TEST METHODOLOGY
This evaluation for Windows-based 3270 host-access products is similar to one commissioned by Attachmate and conducted by The Tolly Group in January 1994. (See The Tolly Group Test Summary # 4251: “Attachmate Corporation EXTRA! for Windows v. 4.0 Ease-of-Use Evaluation.” ) However, the results of the previous evaluation and this one can- not be directly compared. For this study, The Tolly Group has updated the criteria for an ideal 3270 host-access product based on enhancements offered by Windows 95. Therefore, products can only be compared to one another in reference to the current scale.
