Abstract

Olicom, Inc. commissioned The Tolly Group to evaluate the performance of token ring PCI adapter pairs from 3Com Corp., IBM Corp., Madge Networks, Olicom, Inc. and Thomas-Conrad. The Tolly Group measured the throughput achieved by a single DOS ODI client when running Perform3, a de facto standard benchmarking utility, from a Novell NetWare 4.1 server. The client-server session used standard ODI drivers and communicated using NetWare’s native IPX protocol. All throughput tests were run using matching pairs of adapters from each vendor installed in the client and the server. No attempt was made to stress the server side of the connection.
