Abstract
Bay Networks commissioned The Tolly Group to evaluate three remote access concentrators: the Bay Networks 5399, the Ascend MAX TNT and the Total Control Enterprise Network Hub from U.S. Robotics. The Tolly Group used Ganymede Software’s Chariot test tool to conduct scalability tests for up to 46 simultaneous IP file transfers over 28.8 Kbit/s lines. Testing was con- ducted during July and August of 1997.
The testing showed that the Bay Networks 5399 exhibited higher effective throughput at every data point measured than the U.S. Robotics Total Control Enterprise Network Hub or the Ascend MAX TNT. Furthermore, the Bay Networks product was the only one to deliver data to 46 simultaneous users without any “per-client” throughput degradation.
